Street Medicine is a volunteer student-run outreach group whose goal is to provide a healthcare safety net for people without housing in San Bernardino. Instead of waiting for patients to come into the healthcare world, we meet people where they are. We grab our stethoscopes, put on our backpacks, and go to our neighbors who are never going to come to a clinic on their own. We provide free medical care to anyone, often visiting local parks, women's shelters, and shelters for our unhoused neighbors.
We run one to three outreach events a week to provide free and high-quality transitional care under the supervision of Loma Linda University Health providers and pharmacists. We provide services such as medical checkups, drug counseling, flu shots, COVID-19 vaccinations, blood pressure and blood glucose screening, referral to SAC clinic, and more.

Meeting People Wherever They Need Care
LLU Students
We’re looking for LLU student volunteers interested in applying their education in the community. Before participating in an outreach event, volunteers must complete the following items:
- Attend an orientation meeting for your program at the beginning of the academic year or contact Street Medicine directors Esther Gow Lee and Jadelyn Bautista at llustreetmedicine@llu.edu to set up an orientation.
- Complete the risk waiver form. Contact the Street Medicine directors Esther Gow Lee and Jadelyn Bautista at llustreetmedicine@llu.edu for the form. Sign and turn in to Gaby Kunze or Karen Schiller in the School of Medicine's Dean Office in the Coleman Student Pavilion.
- Email Directors and cc Gaby Kunze or Karen Schiller to notify us that you have submitted the form.
After submitting your form, you will be added to the volunteer email list. You will be notified of the upcoming outreach opportunities on a weekly basis. Volunteer slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Healthcare Professionals
LLU Street Medicine can't operate without physicians and licensed providers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and licensed resident physicians). Currently, a shortage of providers is the only factor limiting our outreach. If you are a licensed provider interested in volunteering with us, we would love to hear from you.
By volunteering as a provider, you're not just giving your own time - you're enabling 6–12 students to engage in interprofessional education and collaboration, practice their clinical skills, improve their communication skills with patients and colleagues, and to serve our community. Our students couldn't participate without you. The ministry is an important educational experience for students as they develop life-altering (and sometimes career-altering) compassion for our marginalized neighbors.
