About Styliani Goulopoulou, MS, PhD

Dr. Goulopoulou is a vascular physiologist whose research focuses on women’s cardiovascular health across the lifespan. Her laboratory studies the mechanisms that govern vascular resilience, adaptation, and vulnerability, with particular emphasis on the interplay among vascular function, inflammation, and mitochondrial stress signaling.

Pregnancy provides a unique model of cardiovascular adaptation, while preeclampsia provides an opportunity to investigate why these adaptations fail and how pregnancy complications may influence cardiovascular health after delivery. Her laboratory integrates molecular, cellular, preclinical, and clinical approaches to study maternal vascular and placental physiology, mitochondrial stress signaling in preeclampsia, and biomarkers of pregnancy-related cardiovascular dysfunction. Emerging areas of research examine how reproductive history and gynecologic conditions, including uterine fibroids, contribute to cardiovascular health and disease risk in women.

Through interdisciplinary collaborations spanning maternal-fetal medicine, gynecology, genetics, computational biology, and population health, Dr. Goulopoulou’s research seeks to translate mechanistic discoveries into approaches for identifying, preventing, and treating cardiovascular risk in women. She is also committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists and fostering a collaborative and supportive research environment.
