About Iris Mamier, PhD

Dr. Iris Mamier has served as full-time faculty in the Loma Linda University School of Nursing since 2009. Over the past two decades, she has taught across undergraduate and graduate programs (MS, DNP, PhD), chaired numerous DNP practice inquiry projects and PhD dissertations, and contributed significantly to program development and student mentorship.

Her current faculty assignment is with the PhD program, where she coordinates the global track of the online PhD in Nursing. In 2023, she played a key role in launching this track, which expands access to doctoral education for international students. As the first cohort enters the dissertation phase, a second cohort is scheduled to begin in Summer 2026.

Dr. Mamier’s initial appointment at LLU involved leading the HRSA-funded “Pipeline to Registered Nursing” program, aimed at improving retention among first-generation college students. She also contributed to the Learning Assistance Program, now known as ACE.

Since 2010, she has been deeply involved in the PhD program, teaching core courses such as Philosophy of Science, Mentored Research, Dissertation Research, and Quantitative Research Methods. Her commitment to graduate education also includes contributions to the post-MS DNP, Bachelor-entry DNP, and Bachelor-entry PhD programs. Until 2023, she taught across these programs, including courses in Translational Research for Evidence-Based Practice and Nursing Theory.

Dr. Mamier’s research focuses on whole-person care and nursing spiritual care extended in response to patient and family suffering and coping with illness. She was part of an interdisciplinary team from across LLU when the wholeness definition, spiritual history tool SOUL, as well as the CLEAR Whole Person Care Model was developed. She partnered with other healthcare professionals during the annual Whole Person Care/Spirituality conferences the Center for Spiritual Life and Wholeness used to offer. In addition, she conducted collaborative spirituality research projects within LLU and with external institutions. As a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Dr. Mamier has held leadership roles in the local Gamma Alpha chapter of the School of Nursing, including serving as Vice President, President, and Past President.

Her service to the university includes active participation in the University Faculty Council (serving as chair-elect, chair, and past-chair through 2024), the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Center for Spiritual Life & Wholeness, and the Administrative Committee of the Center for Understanding World Religions. She has also served on the University Faculty Development Committee and continues to represent the School of Nursing on the Global Nursing Committee, including international accreditation visits to SDA universities globally.
