Program Description

The goal of the Neurosciences, Systems Biology, and Bioengineering (NSBB) program is to train students to apply strategies of cutting-edge engineering, integrative biology, and bioinformatics to impactful questions of fundamental biology and human health.

The Department of Basic Sciences in the School of Medicine offers graduate programs leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in three areas through the Integrated Biomedical Graduate Studies Program (IBGS).

The core curriculum provides a broad background in molecular biology, immunology, and medical microbiology and infectious diseases. Advanced courses allow each student to fully develop an area of interest.  Research strengths of the program include: cellular and systems neurosciences, bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational modeling, biostatistics and data analytics, radiation physics, functional/structural imaging, in vivo and in vitro physiology, and biomedical engineering.

    Notes

    • Estimated amounts are for the academic year specified only. Amounts are based on full-time attendance for the number of months enrolled per academic year. International students need to calculate 12 months of living expenses based on these amounts.
    • Amounts are expected to increase each year consistent with inflation in the professional education sector.
    • To qualify for financial aid, most students must be enrolled at least half time in an aid eligible program and be taking degree requirements. Half time is 6 units in a quarter for undergraduate programs and 4 units in a quarter for graduate programs.
