About Steven A. Vasilev, MD

“I help women to defeat endometriosis and related gynecologic malignancies, including ovarian cancer, using a unique combination of minimally invasive robotic surgery, precision medicine therapies, and complementary holistic natural support towards thriving in survivorship.”

My background and training have resulted in triple board certification in OB-GYN, Gynecologic Oncology, and Integrative & Holistic Medicine; at this time, I am the only such physician with this combination of certifications in the United States.  Primarily, as an oncologic and robotic surgeon I have trained hundreds of fellows and residents.

I served as Founding Medical Director of Integrative Medicine and Integrative Gynecologic Oncology at Providence Saint John's Health Center, Professor at the former John Wayne Cancer Institute (Saint John's Cancer Center) in Santa Monica, California. I have also served in multiple leadership positions on the faculties of Kaiser Permanente,  City of Hope, UC Irvine, USC, and UCLA. Currently, I serve as a Clinical Professor on the Loma Linda University School of Medicine faculty.

Research has been a lifelong core interest, thus I have been involved in and leading research programs at multiple sites since 1977. I have authored over 90 publications, abstracts, book chapters and am an author-editor of a gynecologic oncology textbook and a popular book on integrative oncology. My research has focused on surgical innovation, novel cancer therapies, and integrative & complementary health. I have been an active member of multiple medical societies.

An additional interest has been based on my MBA degree from UCLA, with training in, and work history of, process improvement in organizational change using tools like Lean Six-Sigma and Theory of Constraints.

I am primarily in private practice at several locations in Southern and Central Coast California, with continued involvement in teaching and research involving clinical and translational trials.
