  • Management of Malocclusion After Maxillofacial Trauma August 2017 Authors: Ashish Sharma, DDS, BDS, MSD, Brian Hondorp, MD, Andrey Gaiduchik, DDS, Nadim Baba DMD, MSD, FACP, Jayini S. Thakker, DDS, MD, FACS, Jared Inman, MD, FACSAim: The relationship of teeth, alveolar bone, maxillary and mandibular bones in relation to each other and the facial skeleton, temporomandibular joints and facial neuro-musculature can play a role in the development of malocclusion secondary to maxillofacial trauma. The management of malocclusion encompasses surgical reduction of fractured segments, prosthodontic rehabilitation, orthodontic therapy, restorative dentistry and orthognathic surgery. This goal of this paper is to highlight the role of a multi-disciplinary approach and to provide guidelines in treating malocclusion, developed secondary to maxillofacial trauma. (09/2017)

  • Effect of Mandible and Maxilla Osteotomies in Velar, Oropharyngeal, and Hypopharyngeal Diameter • Authors: Christopher Vanderbeek, DDS, Yuan Liu, Zachary Reichert, Tolbin Collett, Jayini S. Thakker, DDS, MD, Jared Inman, MD • Aims:  We assess different vectors and amplitudes of maxillomandibular movements and how they impact the posterior airways space by directly measuring these changes in human cadaveric specimens.  The goal is to identify the optimal movements, or combination of movements, to maximize airway dimension in the Obstructive Sleep Apnea patient undergoing MMA. • Oral abstract presented at 2017 Annual AAOMS Meeting. • Publication: Vanderbeek C, Liu YF, Reichert Z, Thakker J, Collett T, Inman JC. • Use of Virtual Surgical Planning and Virtual Dataset with Intraoperative Navigation to Guide Revision of Complex Facial Fractures: A Case Report • Authors: Anh Nguyen, DDS, MD, Christopher Vanderbeek, DDS, Jayini S. Thakker, DDS, MD, Alan S. Herford, DDS, MD • Aims:  We demonstrate the use of virtual surgical planning to interface with intraoperative navigation to guide the osteotomies and precise reduction of complex maxillofacial reconstruction after trauma.  We discuss indications and potential benefits of navigation in comparison to intraoperative CT scan. • Publication:Nguyen A, Vanderbeek C, Thakker J, Herford A.
