About Ifeanyi D. Nwachukwu, PhD


Dr. Ifeanyi Nwachukwu is an Assistant Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry in the School of Public Health, Loma Linda University. He is interested in studying the contributions of plant food protein-derived bioactive peptides to health particularly their anticancer, antioxidative, antihypertensive and hypolipidemic properties using an array of techniques including in silico, in vitro, cell culture, animal and human clinical studies. His research interests also include understanding the precise mechanisms underlying the transport of bioactive peptides

Prior to his appointment as an Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University in May 2019, Dr. Nwachukwu earned a PhD in Human Nutritional Sciences from the University of Manitoba and worked briefly as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Nutrition Sciences, University of Ottawa.

Dr. Nwachukwu has authored/co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He is also the recipient of many awards, prizes and recognitions including the 2019 Governor General’s Gold Medal Award (University of Manitoba), Manitoba TechFutures Program Award (2016), American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS)/Thomas H. Smouse Memorial Fellowship (2016), and the University of Manitoba Emerging Leaders Award (2015)
