About Raja R. Narayan, MD, MPH

Dr. Raja Narayan MD MPH FSSO, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology and the Vice Chair of the Cancer Center Clinical Research Commitee. He completed his undergraduate studies in Chemical Biology with Honors from Berkeley, his graduate training in Biostatistics from Yale University, and his Medical Doctorate with Distinction from UC Irvine. Dr. Narayan completed his General Surgery Residency training at Stanford University, a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cancer Biology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and his Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship training at Harvard Medical School with Dana-Farber/Mass General Brigham. He additionally completed an International Minimally Invasive Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea focused in liver, pancreas, and gastric cancer surgery.

Dr. Narayan is specialized in the treatment of patients with pancreas, liver, and gastrointestinal cancers using minimally invasive approaches like robotic surgery. He is an NCI-awarded cancer surgeon scientist whose research focuses on reprogramming aggressive molecular profiles of tumor biology to improve treatment response and patient survival. He is also passionate about patient education and teaching stemming from his work with the online education platform, Khan Academy, where his instructional videos on physiology and pathology have been viewed by over 20 million people worldwide. He serves on multiple international committees for societies like the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. His extensive clinical background, research experience, and passion for teaching uniquely distinguish him as a Surgical Oncologist committed to advancing the field and providing patient-centered care.
