About Akshat Jain, MD, MPH

As a pediatric hematologist-oncologist, I specialize in inherited bleeding disorders and hemoglobinopathies. My clinical and research efforts are dedicated to advancing our understanding and treatment of hemophilia and related disorders, particularly through innovative gene therapy approaches. My role at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and Children's Hospital has enabled me to lead various clinical trials and research studies, contributing significantly to the field. My vision for the inland empire is to create an all inclusive center of excellence for all things hematology and gene therapy for rare disorders. With successful program development over the past 7 years and a successful research enterprise over the past 5 years , the next phase of my career will be devoted to build service parallels to these enterprise and create additional programs and support for Women's health in rare disease and access to care for diverse undeserved population globally for hematologic care and cures. 

As a key opinion leader in pediatric bleeding disorders and sickle cell disease, my insights and research are frequently featured in national and international media. I am particularly known for our team's work on immunotherapy, endothelial dysfunction in sickle cell disease, COVID coagulopathy, and access to care in global health. Our research also focuses on women's health and fertility in sickle cell disease, and addressing barriers to optimal care for hematologic disorders in over 17 countries.

I have been honored with numerous awards recognizing my contributions to pediatric healthcare and have held key positions in national and international medical committees and organizations. As a consultant to the Ministry of Health in various countries and an advisor to the World Health Organization, I bring a wealth of expertise in classic hematology and global health. Recently, I was appointed as the 2024 Ambassador for the American Society of Hematology.
