Dr. Herring is a third generation Adventist who graduated from an Adventist academy in Oakland California and an Adventist nursing school in northern California (Pacific Union College). She attended Andrews University for part of her undergraduate studies, and completed her graduate degrees in Texas (Masters at University of Texas and PhD from Texas Woman's University). She has a passion for helping the underserved and disadvantaged and has dedicated her life to leading students in the same direction. She loves teaching and she especially loves research in the areas of minority health, Adventist health, family and community violence, child advocacy, divorce and mediation relating to protecting the children, and many other areas. Being on faculty at Loma Linda University is the highlight of her life because she feels that she is doing God's work, with her mission field being the surrounding area of San Bernardino. Her children are also dedicated to God's work, two are physicians and one has PhD in biochemistry from Loma Linda University School of Mediciane.
