This program emphasizes "field-based" studies that generally address questions of "ecological" relevance such as animal biology and marine sciences. Students whose interests are more narrowly focused within health or other basic sciences should refer to programs within the School of Medicine.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist: Adult/Gerontology (CNS) is an expert in evidence-based practice, integrating knowledge of disease and medical treatments into the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients’ illnesses to improve patient outcomes. The CNS curriculum offers the opportunity for students to choose a selected area of clinical nursing. The program is offered in a hybrid format, only requiring four days on campus each quarter. Part-time study is available, and courses are offered to accommodate working nurses.

As an FNP you are positioned to become an expert in each patient’s health history, and health background. Providing care throughout each individual’s life span will help you make the best healthcare recommendations possible. With an emphasis on preventative care, many Family Nurse Practitioners practice primarily in ambulatory care settings, and make significant contributions to underserved populations. The MS to DNP program allows nurses who already have a masters degree to achieve a doctoral degree.

Upon completion of the LLU School of Nursing Pediatric NP program, graduates will be equipped with the skills necessary to act as a primary care provider for patients under the age of 21.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) program promotes whole person care, by focusing on the mental, physical, and spiritual health of patients. Students are prepared to promote optimal mental health, prevention, and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance within a variety of settings across the life span.

The aim of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in nutrition is to prepare students for a career in academia, governmental agencies, research institutes, nonprofit organizations, or private industry. The program is designed to provide an advanced curriculum in nutrition, professional skills, and competencies required to support careers in teaching and research. This program is unique in that it is situated in the School of Public Health in a health sciences university. The program engages in interdisciplinary research that encourages collaboration across public health disciplines and the basic sciences, and that promotes and builds on its core legacy on vegetarian and plant-based nutrition. Areas of curricular strength and research emphasis include plant-based diets and the health of the individual, populations and the planet, nutritional epidemiology, diet and chronic disease risk reduction, and community nutrition.

The Dr.P.H. degree in health education is designed for individuals who desire to add depth to their health education specialization and develop research and leadership capabilities. The Preventive Care Program is designed to prepare high-level health professionals in wellness and lifestyle-management intervention. Emphasis is on academic preparation, practical skills, and administrative abilities in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and protocols designed to address a wide spectrum of health issues—particularly those dealing with chronic disease. These programs and protocols include physical and mental health risk appraisal, nutritional assessment and recommendations, exercise testing and prescription, and smoking-cessation counseling. Doctor of Social Work (Clinical Leadership) The Doctor of Social Work (Clinical Leadership) degree is a three-year full-time program (83 quarter units) and is designed to meet the needs of post-master's social work professionals desiring to advance their careers to become scholar-practitioners in the areas of clinical leadership and practice innovation.

Speech-language pathologists work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, and research. They typically evaluate and treat speech and language disorders in children and adults. The master's degree is entry-level for the profession.
