An advanced degree program preparing individuals to work with children in diverse healthcare environments.

The Master of Science in Counseling provides graduates with a broad academic background in mental health counseling, as well as professional training for a wide variety of careers working with individuals, families, and groups. Professional counselors assist clients in working through personal and emotional concerns such as anxiety, depression, adjustment problems, family stress, developmental transitions, crisis, trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, medical problems, disability, education and career planning, personal loss, and grief.

This dual degree program enables students to earn two master's degrees and a certificate in one 121 quarter unit program. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Professional Clinical Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist licenses (in California; issued through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences). The included Drug and Alcohol Counseling certificate allows students to apply for three separate national certificates in substance abuse counseling. Program may be completed in three years of full-time study. Applications accepted for fall or winter starts. Clinical placements available within the Loma Linda University Health care system as well as local community agencies and organizations.

The MS in Criminal Justice emphasizes integrated behavioral health interventions, restorative justice, and community reintegration to address the prevention, early intervention, treatment and rehabilitation needs of persons at risk for or who have already been incarcerated. Students learn to work with social services, law enforcement, courts, probation and parole to support at risk, incarcerated and recently released inmates. 

The Drug and Alcohol Counseling certificate program is a 100% online, post-baccalaureate program for individuals pursuing licensure or licensed as mental health professionals. The program consists of 13 quarter units (9 academic units and 4 practicum units) taken over four quarters. 200 hours of supervised field experience are required. Courses are a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous formats.

The DMFT prepares graduates to systemically intervene and address mental health disparities at family and community levels.

The MS in Marital and Family Therapy program is designed to provide students with a broad academic background as well as professional practice for working with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings.

The Play Therapy certificate program is designed to provide advanced training to professionals and graduate students who have completed (or who are enrolled in) a mental health degree program, and who have a strong desire to work with children and adolescents. The goal of this program is to provide individuals with the course work and professional contacts that will help prepare them for becoming a future registered play therapist (RPT). The program consists of 13 fully online units taken over four quarters.

The PhD in Psychology follows the traditional scientist-practitioner model. The School Counseling certificate is designed specifically for Counseling MS and Marital and Family Therapy MS students who wish to add the California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in School Counseling to their program. All degree requirements and certificate requirements must be met and the degree awarded prior to recommendation for the PPS credential.

Doctor of Social Work (Clinical Leadership) The Doctor of Social Work (Clinical Leadership) degree is a three-year full-time program (79 quarter units) and is designed to meet the needs of post-master's social work professionals desiring to advance their careers to become scholar-practitioners in the areas of clinical leadership and practice innovation.

Students gain expertise in cutting-edge and evidenced-based trauma- and resiliency-informed interventions that support prevention, early intervention, diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. Experiential learning through Loma Linda University's internationally recognized health system provides students with advanced learning opportunities in integrated behavioral health, tertiary level inpatient care, and global practice settings.

The mission of the combined Master of Social Work and Criminal Justice MS is to facilitate more efficient completion of two graduate degrees for students with a strong interest in, and who are dedicated to, the advanced practice of both social work and criminal justice. The MSW emphasizes ecological systems, a perspective that focuses on the interaction of a person or system in relation to his/her environment. The Criminal Justice MS aims to prepare students to think critically, analytically, and creatively about the problems of crime and social control in the contemporary world. The combination of these two programs has guided the development of the foundation curriculum, professional concentrations, and selection of practicum sites for this dual degree program.

The mission of the PhD in Systems, Families, and Couples is to bring health, healing, wholeness, and hope to individuals, families, and communities through education, research, clinical training, and service to the community. The program prepares students to be scholars in the field of Family Science.
