Welcome to the Center for Health Disparities and Molecular Medicine (CHDMM). Each year medical and scientific advances offer new opportunities for the improvement of health for all Americans. Yet a disproportionate burden of diseases such as diabetes, stroke, cancer, and HIV/AIDS, continues among minority and medically underserved populations. Our faculty is engaged in innovative research that is needed to identify and understand the contributors to health disparities. These contributors may include biological, environmental, socioeconomic, or cultural factors.

The CHDMM houses research projects and student training programs funded primarily by the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). These two NIH initiatives provide synergy to implement a robust research and educational plan to eliminate health disparities.

The CHDMM at Loma Linda University is proud to be recognized as a Research Center of Excellence by the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities. Additionally, the CHDMM takes its place alongside a national community of centers for health disparity research.

The mission of the CHDMM is to eliminate health disparities through research, education, and community engagement. The research theme of the CHDMM focuses on studying the role of the Augmented State of Cellular Oxidative Stress (ASCOS) and inflammation as potential factors that increase susceptibility to health disparities diseases in diverse population groups. The CHDMM integrates a diverse team of research scientists engaged in training a diverse and new generation of health disparities scholars
