To Make Man Whole:

    "To Make Man Whole"

    (C) 1995. Brett Quave and Ron Foo

  • We come to You
    We've heard the call
We dedicate Our all in all

    You've chosen us
    To light the way
    Lead us now
    O Lord, we pray

    Let Your Spirit show
    Let the whole world know
    We care...
And with You we'll be there

    To make man whole
    To touch a soul
To help a hurting heart in need
To be a friend To the end,
Lord Please help us show Your love
    and set man free

    So teach our hands
    And guide our minds
    In every day
    Your will to find

    Give us strength
    To walk this road
    Thanks for friends
    We're not alone

    Let Your Spirit show
    Let the whole world know
    We care...
And with You we'll be there

    To make man whole
    To touch a soul
To help a hurting heart in need
To be a friend To the end, Lord
Please help us show Your love
    and set man free
    To make man whole
    To touch a soul
To help a hurting heart in need
    To be a friend
Please help us show Your love
    and set man free
Please help us show Your love
    and set man free

Background Story for "To Make Man Whole"
  • In spring of 1995, freshman medical student Brett Quave enlisted study partner Ron Foo to collaborate on a song, "To Make Man Whole," that he was working on; Ron recalls that Brett already had the framework of the song complete, and that he quickly bought into its premise: "To Make Man Whole" would be lyrically consistent with the mission of Loma Linda University and the experience of those who studied and worked there; at the same time, the song would be musically accessible to a broad, contemporary student audience.

The two students rushed hammering out the final form of "To Make Man Whole" over about a week -- and it was exam week! -- during marathon study breaks, so that class president Mike Eby could include it at freshman dedication. With classmate Kevin Balli providing piano accompaniment, the freshman choir closed dedication with the song's first performance. A couple of months later, graduating class pastor Tim Grigsby used "To Make Man Whole" with his class' choir during their graduation, setting the stage for forthcoming classes of medical students to perform "To Make Man Whole" as a part of the Loma Linda University's ceremonies.
