Welcome to Loma Linda University School of Public Health's Department of Environmental & Occupational health web pages. The world has experienced dramatic changes in the last few years, and so too, has our academic department. We hope you will take a few moments to review our web pages, noting the recent addition of full-time faculty with toxicology, environmental science, and health geo-informatics backgrounds. Along with this infusion of new professional blood, we have also been successful at attracting funded grants, which translates into opportunities for you to get involved in practice and research activities. The department's core mission is to prepare you for the next phase of your life, be that employment or the further education. We provide you with the theoretical foundation of the environmental health sciences and most importantly how those sciences are applied. Our staff actively practices public health, which allows us to bring current and emerging practices into the classroom. This translates into opportunity, as you will be competitively equipped with coveted skills as you enter the job market. Our students have been hired by or interned with the UCLA, Kaiser Permanente, California Institute of Technology, Liberty Mutual Risk Services, U.S. Department of Energy, Capitol Hill, Disney, Texaco, Exxon-Mobil, California EPA, US Centers for Disease Control, and numerous county health departments, among others.
The Department has recently opened a Health Geoinformatics laboratory equipped with state of the art geographic information system (GIS) software and peripherals. The lab is the largest of its kind in the United States dedicated to public and environmental health. We have also recently received funding to explore the relationship between exposure to environmental pollutants and development of breast cancer using proteomics technology. In both cases, you can interface with professionals who are at the leading edge of public health technology.

Our average class size of ten is conducive for the personal attention you can expect by our faculty and staff. Each classroom is equipped with LCD projectors and computers to enhance the learning experience. Finally, unlike at many large universities, appointments with departmental faculty are generally easy to obtain.
