Ruthita J. Fike, MA, is LLUAHSC executive vice president for hospital affairs and LLUMC chief executive officer and administrator. Ms. Fike assumed her new responsibilities on February 18, 2004 and was formerly executive vice president of operations and support services for Centura Health in Englewood, Colorado. As Colorado's largest health-care system, Centura Health operates 12 hospitals, eight senior living residences, and home care and hospice services. Centura provides care to more than 500,000 individuals each year and is the fourth largest private employer in Colorado. Centura Health is sponsored by Adventist Health System and Catholic Health Initiatives.
Earlier this year, the Denver Business Journal named Ms. Fike the 2003 Outstanding Woman in Business recognizing women's excellence in business and commerce in the category of health care in the Denver metro area. Ms. Fike has a long history in the health-care profession. From 1996 to 2002, she was CEO of Porter Adventist Hospital, Denver, Colorado, and Littleton Adventist Hospital, Littleton, Colorado. Porter is a 368-bed hospital and Littleton is a 139-bed facility. In 2000 and 2001, Littleton Adventist Hospital was one of the most profitable hospitals in the nation. The two hospitals had an annual net operating revenue of $450 million with approximately 2,700 employees. The two hospitals had a combined medical staff of 400 active members. From 1989 to 1996, Ms. Fike was chief operating officer and senior vice president of Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. As COO, Ms. Fike was responsible for the daily management of the medical center.
In addition to having experience in the health-care field, Ms. Fike has also held positions in the educational arena. From 1978 to 1985, she was vice president for institutional advancement at Union College, Lincoln, Nebraska; from 1974 to 1978, she was an English teacher at College View Academy, and also taught several college classes in Lincoln.
Ms. Fike graduated cum laude from Union College. In 1970, as one of Union College's first student missionaries, Ms. Fike traveled extensively throughout South Vietnam during the Vietnam war and administered more than 175,000 vaccinations to South Vietnamese children.
As CEO and administrator of Loma Linda University Medical Center, Ms. Fike will oversee the day-to-day operations of the institution that include the Medical Center, Loma Linda University Children's Hospital, Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center, Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus, and the various signature programs. As Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center executive vice president for hospital affairs, Ms. Fike's portfolio will include responsibility for international activities in the People's Republic of China. She will also serve as the liaison administrator for Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou.
