About Us

"The scholarship of engagement means connecting the rich resources of the university to our most pressing social, civic, and ethical problems, to our children, to our schools, to our teachers, and to our cities..."
Ernest Boyer in The Scholarship of Engagement

Mission

To develop reciprocal and sustainable relationships between the LLU students, faculty and staff, and the local community.

Vision

To put in practice Christ's mission of love and compassion through meaningful community engagement.

Community Engagement is "the application of institutional resources to address and solve challenges facing communities through collaboration with these communities."*

The Community-Academic Partners in Service (CAPS) Office is committed to bridging the gap between Loma Linda University and the community by connecting students, staff and the community to work together in mutually beneficial programs.

We invite you to join our team as a CAPS representative spreading the word about how to get involved in community engagement activities in your school or organization, or fill out a Volunteer form that will allow CAPS to connect you to the appropriate partners. We also welcome LLU schools and community partners to keep us up to date about opportunities for LLU students to get involved through our Suggest An Event form. Together we can share Christ's mission of love and compassion through meaningful community engagement and build a healthier future for our community.
