Community-Academic Partners in Service

The Norton Neighborhoods Initiative

BoyThe Norton Neighborhoods Initiative is a community outreach project fostered by Loma Linda University Medical Center and directed by Community Outreach Director Ron Graybill, PhD. It offers a wide variety of service opportunities in the neighborhoods around the former Norton Air Force Base, just north of LLU and LLUMC. The most extensive projects are at The Gardens, an after-school site that offers mentoring, gardening, nutrition, safety, and work experience education for children and youth, and English as a Second Language for their parents.

How you can get involved

As a student, faculty, or staff member:

Volunteers can help with tutoring and mentoring on Sunday morning, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday afternoons, with the Eco-Elite Youth Empowerment project on Mondays, and the Children's Learning Gardens on Wednesdays. Volunteers can help with program planning and support almost any time of the week in a fully insured, fully supervised, and safe environment. ESL classes can use volunteers on Mondays and Wednesdays.

As a community partner or alumni:

Please contact Ron Graybill for how your organization can be a part or support the Norton Neighborhoods Initiative.
