As a Project HOPE mentor you have an opportunity to connect with high school girls one-on-one. Many of these girls have hopes and ideals that were altered by their pregnancy and children, and our goals are to encourage them to adjust well to the changes, pursue their dreams, and remind them that we care.
Our mentoring sessions will take place on Fridays from 1:20 to 2:30 p.m. The majority of the mentoring sessions will focus on a particular topic such as exercise, nutrition, goal setting, safety, etc. During the first 30 minutes we will be doing a group activity lead by the site leader followed by about 20 minutes of one-on-one time for you and your mentee. Many of the girls do not have a strong support system, so your willingness to listen will make a world of difference. Thanks again for getting involved in HOPE.
As a student, faculty, or staff member:
All students are invited to become involved. We need both male and female students from all academic disciplines to mentor the young fathers and mothers, respectively. If you have a special desire to teach topics such as nutrition, exercise during pregnancy, or breastfeeding, please contact us for opportunities to share your knowledge and experience with the girls.
As a community partner or alumni:
We would like to invite organizations or alumni with connections to higher education to come and partner with us for our annual career fair. In addition, any donations of baby products or furniture would be much appreciated. Many of these girls struggle to provide adequate supplies such as thermometers or blankets for their infants.
