Community-Academic Partners in Service

About Us

"The scholarship of engagement means connecting the rich resources of the university to our most pressing social, civic, and ethical problems, to our children, to our schools, to our teachers, and to our cities..."
Ernest Boyer in The Scholarship of Engagement

Mission

The CAPS mission is to develop reciprocal and sustainable relationships between the LLU students, faculty and staff, and the local community.

Vision

The CAPS vision is to put in practice Christ’s mission of love and compassion through meaningful community engagement.

Community Engagement is “the application of institutional resources to address and solve challenges facing communities through collaboration with these communities."*

The Community-Academic Partners in Service (CAPS) Office is committed to raising awareness about existing local community engagement activities being conducted through our universities and to connect students/faculty to these opportunities. It also serves to create and strengthen partnerships between LLU and our local community.

The best way to serve another is to listen; listen for strengths, listen for needs, and listen for all that is unsaid. The CAPS office is here to listen to you. We are eager to support existing LLU community engagement initiatives as well as collaborate in the creation of new ones.

We invite you to join our team as a CAPS representative spreading the word about how to get involved in community engagement activities in your school or organization, or fill out a Volunteer form that will allow CAPS to connect you to the appropriate partners. We also welcome LLU schools and community partners to keep us up to date about opportunities for LLU students to get involved through our Suggest An Event form. Together we can share Christ’s mission of love and compassion through meaningful community engagement and build a healthier future for our community.
